Nous croyons en la musique indépendante — un vaste terme qui englobe aussi bien le musicien solitaire dans sa mansarde avec son clavier et son magnéto, que le groupe qui a signé avec un petit label et qui vend ses albums en quantités décentes, assurant des concerts et se demandant ce qu’il peut faire pour satisfaire son public.

Nous croyons que la scène indie est l’endroit où les choses les plus intéressantes sont en train de se passer en ce qui concerne la musique populaire contemporaine.

Cependant, bien que certains médias de masse couvrent à l’occasion la musique et les musiciens indépendants, la scène indie n’a pas la force économique pour exister face aux campagnes promotionnelles des majors et des réseaux de télévision. Dans le même temps, la scène musicale alternative a témoigné d’une généreuse prolifération de blogs et de sites web qui est venue combler ce vide.

Pour que la musique indépendante soit florissante, et, au final, qu’elle permette aux musiciens indépendants de gagner décemment leur vie grâce à leur musique, il nous faut un éco-système, créatif et vigoureux, capable de nourrir la scène indie

C’est cette philosophie qui est le moteur de Tuneside et d’indyGo.

IndyGo est un réseau publicitaire gratuit conçu pour offrir un canal de diffusion aux supports et aux médias qui soutiennent la musique indépendante. IndyGo fait aussi partie d’un ensemble d’initiatives que nous avons en projet dont le but est de contribuer et participer davantage à la scène de la musique indépendante ici en Europe.

IndyGo est aussi conçu pour créer un canal de communication entre les musiciens, labels, ou collectifs indépendants et les sites et les blogs qui informent leur public. Il se présente comme une réelle alternative aux réseaux publicitaires commerciaux. Il est gratuit pour les musiciens indépendants, et nous ferons tout pour que la chose reste en l’état. IndyGo est aussi ouvert aux supports tels que blogs, webzines et autres sites, afin qu’ils puissent promouvoir leurs nombreuses initiatives. Nous avons besoin de toutes ces voix, ces opinions et de cette diversité pour susciter un débat sain au cœur de la scène indie.

• Nous sommes orientés, depuis les fondations, avec une perspective européenne. Vos annonces publicitaires peuvent être publiées dans la plupart des principales langues parlées en Europe, et à mesure que nous progresserons, notre site s’affichera et offrira un support dans ces langues aussi.

• Par dessus tout, nous aimons la musique indépendante, et nous voulons faire de notre mieux pour donner quelque chose en retour à tous ces musiciens et groupes qui nous procurent tellement de plaisir.

We believe in independent music — which is a vast term that refers just as much to the solitary musician in a bedsit with a tape recorder and a keyboard, to a group signed to a small label selling records in decent quantities, touring and generally taking a bet on what they have to give to their public.

We believe that the independent music scene is the place where the most interesting work is currently happening in the field of contemporary popular music.

Yet, while some mass media do occasionally cover the field of independent music and musicians, the independent scene doesn’t have the economic clout to exist besides the acts receiving heavy promotional efforts from major labels and TV networks. At the same time, the alternative music scene has seen a vast [and healthy] proliferation of blogs and websites that have appeared to fill the gap.

In order for independent music to flourish, and, ultimately, in order that independent musicians can earn a decent living from their music, we need a vibrant and creative, eco-system to nourish and feed the independent music scene.

That is the philosophy driving Tuneside and IndyGo.

IndyGo is a free promotional network designed to provide access to outlets and media, sympathetic to independent music. IndyGo is also part of a series of initiatives that we have on the books to contribute to, and participate further in the independent music scene here in Europe.

IndyGo is designed to link independent musicians, labels and collectives with the sites and blogs that inform their public. It is designed to provide a real alternative to commercial advertising networks. It is also free [as in beer] for independent musicians, and we will work hard to keep it that way. IndyGo is also open to those outlets — blogs, webzines, and other sites — to promote their endeavours. We need all these voices, opinions, and the diversity that a healthy debate brings to the scene.

The indyGo advantages

• We are built from the ground up to be a non-commercial alternative. In this way, we can’t be bought out. We just need to cover costs [and these are pretty low, believe you me].

• We are built from the ground up for Europe. We can publish ads in most of the major European languages, and as we progress, we will also be displaying our site and providing support in those languages too.

• We are small, reactive, and flexible.

• Most of all, we love independent music, and want to do our best to give something back to all those bands and musicians who give us so much pleasure.

So what is it? Quite simply, here we will post news and goings on, answer questions, and — quite possibly — ask them too. You may have noticed that the Blog appears currently appears in two languages: English and French. Alain will be posting in French, and I will be looking after the English. This doesn’t mean however that we will translating each other’s posts. Of course, if something is important, then it will appear in both languages, but I count that each language will have specific posts, and, over time, a specific flavour or tone.

Finally, why the convoluted title? Well, we’re approaching the finishing line. In fact, we should be launching our first project for TuneSide — the IndyGo Network — sometime in the coming week. We have a few pages to clear up on the site. There is a missing picture, and the download documents haven’t been updated since spring and so are hopelessly out of date. There is still no Forum in place, and there are probably hundreds of details to fix. But we’ll get there. And soon I hope. More in the next post.
